Great South West Walk

Great South West WalkThe Great South West Walk was an ambitious plan by the Western Morning News to host a walk every day during August which would see each and every section of the 630 mile South West Coast Path walked.

Foot Anstey was keen and determined from the start to support this regional event, which celebrated our environment whilst raising money for three very deserving charities the RNLI, Wooden Spoon and Macmillan Cancer Research.

1 August saw Foot Anstey as proud first day sponsors and having 23 staff participating in various sections of the walk. There were two sections to the day the first involving a 14.8 mile walk from Plymouth to Wembury for which ten eager Foot Anstey staff set off, cheered on by Managing Partner Jane Lister. A further thirteen intrepid Foot Anstey volunteers took part in the second, slightly shorter leg, which was listed as more “strenuous” (13.5 miles).

The sun shone and with soaring temperatures our walkers were kept going with donated water and chocolate from Graddon Vending. Those on the second leg were also welcomed back with much deserved pasties or chips, provided by local café Fryer Tuck. Our thanks to both Graddon Vending and Fryer Tucks.

Foot Anstey raised in excess of £3,500 through sponsorship and the total monies for the entire event are around £140,000, with the paper hoping to make it up to £150,000 by Christmas.
