Designs
Designs are copyright works of industrial application. Whilst the law of copyright extends to written works which are designs for industrial application for example, product designs and designs for machinery parts, there is also a system of registration of designs under current legislation. Not all designs will meet the criteria to be capable of registration. With a few exceptions, the law allows designs which are mass produced and relate to the shape and configuration of an article to be registered. Designs which are purely functional will not be registerable.
We provide our clients with opinions on the capability of registration of designs under the current law. We also advise clients on whether or not their designs may infringe existing registered designs. We will also be able to assist in filing applications for registered designs with the Patent Office.
