Risk Management and Disaster Recovery
Risk is an inevitable by-product of most activities undertaken by charities and social enterprises. Indeed, a reluctance to take risks could limit the success of the organisation in fulfilling its purposes. However, the duty on trustees to identify, evaluate and manage risks effectively calls for a systematic approach. Our experience of working with many different charities of varying sizes puts us in a strong position to help a charity ensure that the systems it has in place are robust and effective.
Unfortunately, however good a charity’s risk management system, disaster does occasionally strike in one form or another. Our charities team includes lawyers with extensive experience in providing down-to-earth, practical advice to guide a charity through a time of crisis and out the other side.
Case study
Working with a charity on a review of its structure and governance systems following a major fraud by one of its trustees. The fraud highlighted a significant number of short-comings in the management of the charity. We advised the trustees on what should be done to protect against a reoccurrence of a similar incident.
