In Sickness And In Health: Managing Short And Long Term Sickness
Who should attend?
HR professionals at all levels, managers at all levels, and anyone with responsibility for supervising staff.
What’s covered?
One of the most challenging workplace issues is how to properly handle problems caused by an employee’s ill health. The situation could involve a disciplinary approach or looking at whether the employee is capable of performing their role, always bearing in mind that the Disability Discrimination Act may apply. This course covers:
- short term persistent absenteeism – getting it under control
- suspicions of swinging the lead
- taking medical advice – when and what to ask
- consultation with the employee
- obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act
- stress cases
- PHI cover
- looking for alternative jobs or changing duties
- how to handle a dismissal and understanding the risks and benefits of dismissing
We use practical examples and case studies to ensure participation by all delegates, improve retention of information and to make the session as informal as possible.
What will delegates achieve?
By the end of the workshop session your delegates will:
- understand the different ill health situations and be able to decide on an appropriate course of action
- be able to implement procedures for reducing short term persistent absenteeism
- be familiar with the content of the relevant law
- know how to make proper use of medical information
- be ready to handle the consultation and dismissal process for those no longer able to perform their role
We also provide a specimen consent letter for delegates to take away with them and use in the future.
How long is it and how much?
This workshop session runs for 3 hours and cost only £75 + VAT per delegate.
The workshop is subject to a minimum of 8 delegates per session and a maximum of 15.
