James specialises in charity law, company commercial law, and corporate finance. He leads Foot Anstey’s dedicated Charities and Social Enterprise team which is highly rated by both Chambers and Legal 500.
James acts for a large number of local and regional charities, other not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises, primarily on start up and registration, governance and regulatory issues, commercial and funding agreements and mergers. He is an active member of the Charity Law Association and is a regular speaker on charity law issues.
He is also experienced in business mergers and acquisitions, commercial agreements, financial services regulation and corporate finance, and has a particular interest in flotations having considerable experience of AIM and PLUS (formerly OFEX) fundraisings.
He was born in Plymouth and read law at Exeter University. He joined Foot Anstey in 2002 having trained and worked for several years in Bristol, and was made a partner at Foot Anstey in 2006.
