Rachel’s specialist areas are competition and commercial law. Her experience ranges from advising and training companies on breaches of competition law and how to comply with the law, to using competition law as a sword against unfair practices experienced by businesses from competitors, to advising companies and individuals on commercial agreements such as franchise, agency, distribution arrangements, software licences, terms of business, and data protection.
Rachel also has experience of advising on commerial and competition aspesct of mergers and joint ventures for a range of clients from individuals to multinationals, including whether to notify such arrangements.
Rachel studied law at Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Amsterdam, and Heritage Management at the University of Greenwich. She trained at one of the leading City of London law firms, Mayer Browne (previously known as Rowe and Maw), where she qualified in 1998, and worked as an Associate at Taylor Wessing and inhouse at Lloyd’s of London before joining Foot Anstey in 2005.
Rachel was described in Chambers 2008 as “impressive” in the field of competition law.
Recent advice includes:
- advising a start-up business (with an excellent business plan) how to deal with anticompetitve barriers imposed by the incumbrant competitors to entering in the market
- advising on structure and drafting a franchise agreement for an overseas branch of a successful Devon business
- advising on distribution arrangements and trading terms for a national wholesaler wishing to protect the business from discounting on the internet
