A Fun and Different Way to Work Off Those Extra Pounds
It’s the new year’s resolution we nearly always break, keeping fit! One way you could stay focused this year is by taking part in an aquathlon.
This year’s Taunton Deane Foot Anstey Aquathlon, takes place on Sunday 24th February at the Wellington Sports Centre so with eight weeks still to go until the competition there is plenty of time to practice and burn off those calories. Event organisers, Tone Leisure and Somerset RC Tri have widened its appeal by encouraging team entries and launching its first ever ‘Corporate Challenge’.
This year’s long distance cycle route of 10km also sees many changes, with the route being changed to encompass a less repetitive cycle. The route will now go through Millstream Gardens, Runnington, Payton and Westford.
The aquathlon involves two disciplines, swimming and running, in a continuous race against the clock. The race caters for varying levels of fitness with two distance options of short (500m swim/5k run) and long (1000m swim/10K run).
For the first time teams, either all female, all male or mixed category, share the challenge as one competitor completes the swim and the other the run. Another new category is for businesses who can enter teams and compete for the ‘Foot Anstey Corporate Challenge’.
Andrew Hannam, keen competitor and Partner at Foot Anstey said "This aquathlon is a great way to work off the excesses of Christmas as it caters for every level of fitness.
“We, at Foot Anstey, plan to be entering teams into the Corporate Challenge event and hope other businesses will see this as a way of keeping fit and building team spirit.”
The organisers, Clare Bill of Tone Leisure and Paul Lester of the Somerset RC Tri said “We hope the changes to the 10km route will make the event more interesting to the competitors and the new team races will encourage more people to join a real fun event.”
The final closing date for entries is 4th February places are limited so individuals and teams are encouraged to complete their entry forms early.
