Local Charity Receives Over £5500

Local cancer charity FORCE received £5588 from Exeter law firm Foot Anstey who recently raised the money at a special Race Night.

Over 200 people from all areas of the local business community enjoyed a hog roast followed by screened horse racing, a hugely successful charity auction and raffle.

Auction fever meant guests generously bidding against each other and in some cases against themselves. The auction lots, donated by local businesses, ranged from clay pigeon shooting to golfing weekends with the star lot a signed England Cricket bat selling at £800.

Antonia Power, corporate lawyer at Foot Anstey said: ‘Our aim was to raise a substantial sum for FORCE through a fun and informal evening. But the evening far surpassed our expectations, thanks to our guests’ generosity.

“The night had a real buzz about it and is a fantastic example of the goodwill the local business community has for local charity fundraising.”

“Our trainee solicitors put a lot of time and effort into helping organise the event.”

As the evening was in aid of Exeter cancer charity FORCE, their Chief Executive Meriel Fishwick explained to the audience how they finance improvements in patient care through research, buy advanced equipment and help patients at their new Information and Support Centre in the grounds of the RD&E Hospital.

Meriel Fishwick said “This is a staggering sum and I would like to thank all concerned for their hard work and generosity. The money raised will run FORCE Cancer Support Centre for a week. We see around 250 visitors at the Centre every week now so this donation will make a significant contribution to local people whose lives are affected by cancer.”
