Day out at Taunton Deane Foot Anstey Triathlon
It took just 10 days for competitors to fill the 400 places for the Taunton Deane Foot Anstey Triathlon on Sunday 18th May 2008 but the organisers are still looking for volunteers to help run the event.
“We are a well established event on the Triathlon calendar and attract everyone from complete beginners right through to the elite - drawing from sports clubs across the South West region and beyond,” explained Paul Lester , Event Organiser.
“It’s a real family event with lots of local people coming to support the athletes or just coming along for a fun day out.
“Now our competitors’ list is full we are looking for volunteers to help around the course to keep our athletes on track, count the swimmers lengths and help at the transition points. There is something for everyone to do including families manning the drink stations.”
For the children there are various activities and the food and drink providers now include several new local suppliers.
Every taste will be catered for on the day with Express Donuts, who will serve freshly cooked hot donuts, fresh cakes, sandwiches, bacon rolls and hot dogs, Granny Gothards will offer handmade ice creams and sorbets, Coffee Express will serve speciality coffee, hot chocolate and tea, alongside panini’s and pastries and John Lock is sure to be a hit with children and adults alike offering traditional sweets, candy floss and fudge.
The event is sponsored by Taunton solicitors Foot Anstey for the second time and will be organised by Tone Leisure and, local triathlon club, Somerset RC Tri.
The triathletes will use the Wellington Sports Centre swimming pool for the swim element before taking to the quiet roads for the cycle ride towards Milverton and Wiveliscombe and then a mixture of footpaths and quiet lanes for the run.
Andrew Hannam Partner at Taunton law firm Foot Anstey and competitor in the triathlon said “As a local business we want to be involved in the local community and make a contribution to community events like the Triathlon.
“Our participation has two aspects. Our sponsorship helps improve facilities and our own staff are participating in the event.
“But most important this is a great event for athletes and a real fun day out for the family with plenty of side attractions to keep the whole family entertained.”
