Record Number Of Competitors For The Taunton Foot Anstey Junior Aquathlon

A record number of competitors entered the ever popular Taunton Foot Anstey Junior Aquathlon on Sunday 28th September at Queens College.

122 girls and boys aged between 8 and 16 yrs competed by swimming and running over various distances according to their age.

For many the event was a family affair. A win by Sophie Abraham in the Tri-Star 9-10yr category was matched by her sister Abi who won the 11-12yr race and the Mitchell family had three entrants, Emily, Laura and Douglas.

There was only one entry in the Youth 15-16 female category, Eileen Padfield, who was encouraged around the course by all the other athletes accompanied by ’Come on Eileen’ playing on the sound system!

Simon Cooper, who won the Tri Star3 13-14 age group is now competing at international level.

Andrew Hannam who presented the prizes said “Congratulations must go to all the competitors, but especially the winners, who certainly gave it their all.

“Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves thanks to the superb organisation by Tone Leisure and local triathlon club, Somerset RC Tri and Queens College.

An aquathlon is a race against the clock that starts as the competitors enter the swimming pool and stops as they cross the finishing line after the run.

The competition has five different age categories 8yrs, 9 & 10 yrs, 11& 12yrs, 13 & 14 yrs and 15 & 16 yrs who each swim and run distances according to their category.
