Tenth Anniversary For Taunton Deane Foot Anstey Triathlon
Now in its 10th year, the event on Sunday 20th May 2007 attracts everyone from complete beginners right through to the elite - drawing from sports clubs across the South West region and beyond who run, cycle and swim. The 400 competitor places are normally snapped up within weeks.
This year the event is sponsored by Taunton solicitors Foot Anstey for the first time and will be organised by Tone Leisure and, local triathlon club, Somerset RC Tri.
The race, on Sunday 20th May 2007, has something for every level of fitness. The Sprint event is for the more experienced athletes and a Novice event is open to anyone new to this sporting event or who has completed less than three triathlons in the past. Both events have male and female categories in the age groups of Junior (16 -20), Senior (21-39), Veteran (40 -49), Super Veteran (50+) and Vintage Veteran (60+).
The triathletes will use the Wellington Sports Centre swimming pool for the swim element before taking to the quiet roads for the cycle ride (towards Milverton and Wiveliscombe) and then a mixture of footpaths/quiet lanes for the run.
Andrew Hannam, partner at Taunton Foot Anstey said “We are delighted that our sponsorship will be used to improve the support facilities for this event. Foot Anstey is a local law firm offering advice to businesses and individuals. We believe it is important for us to be part of the local community making a contribution to community events like the Triathlon.
“We want this anniversary event to be a bumper success and are looking forward to working closely with the event organisers. It’s a real family day out with plenty of side attractions to keep the whole family busy.
“Personally, I won’t be sitting on the side lines at this event as I hope to compete alongside other staff from Foot Anstey.”
Clare Bill, Strategic Development Manager of Tone Leisure said “In the past few months the phone was hot with competitors wanting a copy of this year’s application form. Every year the triathlon is oversubscribed and this year should be no exception. Numbers are strictly limited so my advice is to go online or call to apply for your place as soon as possible.
“This year’s Taunton Deane Foot Anstey Triathlon will build on the success of previous years. The involvement of Foot Anstey means we can make this special 10th Birthday Year really special. Their sponsorship will help improve both the competitors and spectators experience.”
There are 400 places, 150 for the novice and 250 for the sprint. The closing date for entries is Friday 20th April 2007.
