New Planning Portal For The Department For Communities And Local Government

South west law firm Foot Anstey has helped create and legally protect the new Planning Portal for the Department for Communities and Local Government. This award winning online planning and building regulations resource is used by home owners, developers, government officials and property professionals in England and Wales.

The Planning Portal, originally developed in 2001/2002, invited a number of tenderers to design and create a new and innovative portal to provide an improved one-stop-shop supplying answers, services and information. IBM won this tendering process and Foot Anstey were appointed to advise on the overall process, which included advising in relation to the statement of requirement; review and advising in relation to the best and final offer received by IBM and drafting and negotiating the contractual documentation.

The Foot Anstey team of Edmund Probert, Marlene Howels and Rebecca Anforth had to overcome a number of tricky legal and political issues and provide complex commercial legal advice as well as looking at new and innovative technical solutions.

Chris Kendall, Planning Director at the Department for Communities and Local Government expressed his satisfaction with the process saying the staff at the Planning Portal treats Foot Anstey as “very much as part and parcel of their team”.

Marlene Howels, associate at Foot Anstey responded by saying ”"It is refreshing to be working with such a forward thinking organisation to help them realise the highest possible standards of service to the public. “
