Athletes sign up for 10th Taunton Dean Foot Anstey Triathlon in record time
It took just two record weeks for competitors to fill the 400 places at the Taunton Deane Foot Anstey Triathlon to be run on Sunday 20th May 2007.
“We always fill the places quickly but this year it’s a record” explained Paul Lester, Event Organiser. “This is the 10th year for the event and we have attracted everyone from complete beginners right through to the elite - drawing from sports clubs across the South West region and beyond who run, cycle and swim.”
“Now our competitors list is full we are looking for help to run the event. We need marshalls around the course to keep our competitors on track, help in counting the swimmers lengths and help at the transition points. There is something for everyone to do including families helping at the drink stations.”
This year the event is sponsored by Taunton solicitors Foot Anstey for the first time and will be organised by Tone Leisure and, local triathlon club, Somerset RC Tri.
The race, on Sunday 20th May 2007, has something for every level of fitness. The Sprint event is for the more experienced athletes and a Novice event is open to anyone new to this sporting event or who has completed less than three triathlons in the past. Both events have male and female categories in the age groups of Junior (16 -20), Senior (21-39), Veteran (40 -49), Super Veteran (50+) and Vintage Veteran (60+).
The triathletes will use the Wellington Sports Centre swimming pool for the swim element before taking to the quiet roads for the cycle ride (towards Milverton and Wiveliscombe) and then a mixture of footpaths/quiet lanes for the run.
Mark Lewis, Chairman at Foot Anstey said “This is such a great event for athletes and a real fun day out for the family with plenty of side attractions to keep the whole family busy.
“We want Foot Anstey to be involved in the local community and making a contribution to community events like the Triathlon.
“Our participation has two aspects. Our sponsorship helps improve facilities and our own staff are participating in the event. We want this anniversary event to be a bumper success and are looking forward to working closely with the event organisers.”
