South West Lawyer Can’t a Ford to take Brake from New Fundraising Campaign

Patrick Howarth is a man who likes cars; the faster, the bigger, the better. This is why it might seem strange to some that recently his cars seem to be getting smaller, older and slower.

But it’s no Saab story; it’s all in a good cause.

Patrick Howarth with his new ’pride and joy’! As a partner in the employment & pensions team, he is supporting the law firm’s efforts to raise as much money as possible for the NSPCC’s ‘Child’s Voice Appeal’.

This month he has been driving a 27 year old automatic Austin Metro, which lacks heating and a radio, struggles to make it up the hills and certainly doesn’t have the strength to overtake.

Patrick said; “When I came up with this idea people really helped me to drive it forward. New challenges keep being thrown at me, driving to certain places to collect donations, driving with a tartan blanket on my knees. I’ve had a lot of support, but we still need people to donate before our deadline of the end of March.”

This latest fundraising idea is part of a series of activities organised by all four regional offices at Foot Anstey who, along with other south west businesses, have committed to raising £1.6m for the NSPCC’s ‘Child’s Voice Appeal’. Patrick has already been sponsored generously by clients who include many of the region’s biggest employers, as well as friends and family, but he still need more if Foot Anstey is to hit their target.

The money raised will help to make sure children who need assistance and advice from the NSPCC and ChildLine, will get it. Any child calling from the southwest peninsula is looked after by a call handling centre in Exeter; at present, one in three calls from the region’s children is being unanswered, dictated by their limited resources.

Patrick said; “Children and Young People in our community are important to us at Foot Anstey and we are supporting the Child’s Voice Appeal over the coming months. The Child’s Voice Appeal aims to transform ChildLine and the NSPCC Helpline to ensure they are there for all children. The hardest thing for an abused child is to speak out.”

Anyone wishing to donate money is asked to go to www.justgiving.com/Foot-Anstey-CarSwap before the end of March.
