Wellington Dental Patients To Claim Compensation

Following the decision of the General Dental Council to find former Wellington dentist Joanna Chyzy guilty of serious professional misconduct, a number of her former patients are considering making claims for compensation.

Chris Thorne, a partner a Foot Anstey solicitors, is advising some patients in relation to their claims. “Whilst disciplinary proceedings are a separate issue from a compensation claim in the civil courts,” he said “The findings of the General Dental Council are strong evidence in support of any claim. We are inviting Miss Chyzy’s insurers to discuss the cases sensibly in the hope that negotiated settlements can be swiftly achieved.”

A number of patients gave evidence to the General Dental Council having suffered pain and discomfort at the hands of Miss Chyzy, treatment which suggested “clumsy, ham-fisted dexterity” according to the Council.
