Plymouth Lawyer Speaks At National Event

Alastair Hargreaves, from Plymouth law firm Foot Anstey, is speaking at a national conference looking at the changing market place for solicitors offering conveyancing.

With the imminent arrival of HIPS (Home Information Packs) and the Legal Services Bill in the pipeline, the legal profession faces huge changes both in the way it relates to its clients and in its organisation.

The Legal Services Bill going through Parliament will allow non lawyers to own or invest in legal firms opening the opportunities for supermarkets, insurance companies and others to offer legal advice. Fixed priced conveyancing is one of the most likely services to be offered by high street shops and supermarkets.

Alastair Hargreaves, Head of Move Forward, Foot Anstey’s fixed priced conveyancing service, will look at how smaller firms can compete with larger organisations, the short term outlook for conveyancing and whether solicitors will still be offering conveyancing services in 10 years time.

Alastair Hargreaves said “My talk will explain the success of Move Forward and how we take full advantage of new technology so that clients can see how their home move is progressing online. We can communicate with them by text, email, phone or letter – its up to them. Combine this with a competitive fixed price and Move Forward has proved there is a market for local solicitors to provide a professional service that will compete with the nationals.”

The two day annual conference, held in London, includes contributions from the Land Registry and the Law Society as well as other major law firms from across the country.
