Young Stars Of The Future Shine At Foot Anstey Junior Aquathlon
100 children competed in the ever popular Taunton Foot Anstey Junior Aquathlon on Sunday 16th September 2007.
An aquathlon is a continuous race over various distances in the disciplines of swimming and running. Competitors race against the clock that starts as they enter the swimming pool and stops as they cross the finishing line after the run.
The competition had five different age categories 8yrs, 9 & 10 yrs, 11-12 yrs, 13 & 14 yrs and a new 15 & 16 yrs youth category who each swam and run distances according to their age category.
11 boys and girls participated in this new category which provides a link for talented youngsters to go on from this competition to compete in the challenging Taunton Deane Foot Anstey Triathlon. The triathlon is one of the most popular sporting events in the South West calendar that involves swimming, cycling and running.
This year the Aquathlon was sponsored by Taunton solicitors Foot Anstey for the first time and was organised by Tone Leisure, local triathlon club, Somerset RC Tri and Queens College who provided the venue.
Juliette Dickinson Tone Leisure Managing Director said “ We were very pleased with the race on Sunday and the number of children who too part. This type of fun competition fits perfectly with Tone’s mission to get more people, more active, more often and encourages children to be active.”
Andrew Hannam, partner at Taunton law firm Foot Anstey said “’Foot Anstey are delighted to continue their sponsorship of the local series of multi-disciplinary events including this junior Aquathlon. This event is a great opportunity for junior athletes to compete in a top quality local event’.
“As a growing firm in the region we want to make a real contribution to well supported community activities, like the Aquathlon.”
