National 'Raising The Ratio' Initiative Comes To Exeter

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ ‘Raising the Ratio’ with the Association of Women in Property is inviting local property professionals to voice their opinions on how to increase the number of women in the property industry.

The event in Exeter is hosted by the property team at South West law firm Foot Anstey and will hear from Jonathan Harris, Chairman of Raising the Ratio on the impact of the campaign that increased the number of women joining RICS from 10% in 2001 to 15% today.

Jonathan Harris said “It is important for us to visit Exeter so that we can listen to the opinions and practices in the South West.

“We hope as many interested parties as possible will come along to air their views and hear about our programme of surveys including the most recent one that looked at retention in the industry.”

Katy Wood, Chairman of Women in Property’s Devon and Cornwall branch said “More and more businesses in the property sector, both locally and nationally, are beginning to realise that ignoring talented women doesn’t make business sense. We need to draw from the widest possible pool of talent and employ the very best people for each specific role – irrespective of gender, ethnicity or age.

“Women in Property, which is open to any female working in the property and construction professions, is making a contribution to the rising number of females in the industry through its mentoring initiative, comprehensive programme of events and a strong supporting network.”

Other speakers include Louise Ellison of Kingston University and Sandy Rhys Jones of Rhys Jones Consultants.

Richard Bagwell, Property Litigation partner at Foot Anstey said “At Foot Anstey, over 57% of the property team are women who specialise in property. We are always looking at ways to attract and retain women and we see this event as our contribution to understanding the issues of diversity which must make business sense for the property and legal sectors.”
