Life at Foot Anstey
Vikki Martin – first year trainee
I chose to study for my Law and French degree at Cardiff University, having been brought up in Plymouth. I felt the decision to move away would help me gain the most from my experience at university and I had already decided that after study, I would like to return and pursue my career in the south west,
When considering my training contract applications, I was already aware that Foot Anstey had an excellent reputation, but I was particularly impressed by the firm’s strong commitment to training and developing the lawyers of the future. I was looking for a larger firm which covered a wide range of practice areas as I wanted to ensure that I experienced a variety of seats during my training contract and Foot Anstey ticked all these boxes.
I started my training contract in September 2007 and was immediately made to feel part of the team. The firm offers a friendly and supportive environment in which to develop, giving responsibility to trainees for their own work very quickly, whilst ensuring that a supervisor is always on hand for support and guidance. I am currently completing my first seat in the family team in the Plymouth office and I have been given a varied workload, including client contact and time in Court, which has allowed me to gain experience and confidence from day one.
Foot Anstey is a very sociable firm, and certainly provides the work life balance that I hoped for. The firm holds regular drinks evenings after work and takes part in many local sporting competitions and charity events. I have joined the firm’s netball team and have enjoyed matches against other local sides, as well as against the men in the Foot Anstey football team, which always makes for an entertaining evening!
Foot Anstey has recently completed mergers with Serpell Eaton in Plymouth and with Hancock Caffin in Truro, which confirms the firm’s determination to continue to grow in the region. In addition, we are moving into brand new offices in Plymouth’s Sutton Harbour in Spring 2009 so it is an exciting time to be training with the firm. Foot Anstey is a great place to work and I am looking forward to playing my part in Foot Ansteys ambition to become ‘the premier firm in the South West’.
